ABOUT US
Since taking over the Whitsunday Fibreglass and Marine business in 1989, Peter Corbishley has made over 390 OC6 canoes. His sales have mirrored the growth of Outrigging in Australia, being one of the few Australian OC6 canoe manufacturers. When Peter purchased the business, the previous owner threw in the 'Classic' mould saying, "You can have that as I have already produced 6 canoes and I think I've flooded the market.” Peter went on to make another 190 Classics! In 1994 a new canoe took over from the Classic - the Force Five from Hawaii. Peter Corbishley was contracted by Canoe Sports to produce the Force Five and a total of 91 have been made. The Force Five remained the canoe of choice for many years, until the release of the Mirage from Hawaii. As of June of 2008 Peter Corbishley has made 100 Mirages and is the only licensed manufacturer for Outrigger Connection Australia Products.
Peter still makes the Force Five and has recently produced a test plug of the 'Comet' OC6 and OC4 - both due to come into production in 2008. The Outrigger Man also has a reputation for producing high quality OC1 and OC2 Stingray canoes for Outrigger Connection Australia. Despite some OC1's and OC2's being imported from overseas, some customers still prefer to buy from a local manufacturer.
Since moving his business "down south" from the Whitsundays in 2005, Peter has stepped up his own paddling of OC1, OC2 & OC6 canoes with his local club, Tweed OCC based just down the road from his factory on the beautiful Tweed River.
Every club in Australia paddles Peter's canoes. Canoes have been sent to countries as far away as Germany, South Africa, Japan, Hong Kong, Singapore, Tahiti, Cook Islands, Samoa, & Papua New Guinea. Innovative ways to ship canoes in sections have been developed, including 2 or 3 piece canoes for 20 or 40ft containers. The first Mirage to come over from Hawaii was actually split into 3 sections and air freighted to Australia.
Other custom projects include a special Mirage with double iakos and amas to prevent capsizing for a youth project at North Keppel Island EEC and fittings for a sailing rig.
If you have a particular need in mind, Peter will gladly discuss customised options to meet your needs.![]() |
